TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS VACATION HOME RENTALS, SCULPTURES, ROAD WORK

The subject of vacation home rental returns to the agenda of the Twentynine Palms City Council. Also up for discussion are approval of sculptures, and moving forward with road work on National Park Drive. Reporter Dan Stork explains…

An oddly-worded item on the agenda of the March 25 Twentynine Palms City Council meeting describes a public hearing regarding the controversial subject of vacation home rentals. Possible actions: Send a draft ordinance rejected by the Council in 2010 back to the Planning Commission for updates; or ask staff to develop it more for Council consideration; or fuhgeddaboudit. After that, the Council will be asked to approve the installation of three Simi Dabah sculptures, two at the Senior Center, and one at Theatre 29. The final agenda item is an “urgency item,” asking for the authorization of $22,000 modification of a contract with environmental consultants to help move along a construction project on National   Park Drive that has been held up by archaeological issues. As part of the same discussion, Council will consider moving $13,000 from Measure I funds to the National Park Drive curb, gutter, sidewalk and median project. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall on Adobe Road.
