TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES IN A FORUM LAST NIGHT

The six candidates from the Twentynine Palms district elections—three incumbents and three challengers—faced off in last night’s candidate forum, hosted by Z107.7 News and moderated by yours truly, at Theater 29 in Twentynine Palms. Reporter Heather Clisby was also there…
Lined up on the Theater 29 stage set for the musical, “Carrie,” six candidates faced their voting public last night for the Twentynine Palms district elections on November 6. Moderated by Z107.7 News Director Gary Daigneault, the well-attended event accepted only questions that could be addressed by all candidates.
Present candidates included incumbent Daniel Mintz and certified write-in candidate Denise Cullum running in District 3; incumbent John Cole and challenger Karmolette O’Gilvie in District 4; and incumbent McArthur Wright running against Cora Heiser in District 5.
Each candidate was allotted two minutes for opening and closing statements. Questions—submitted both in advance and at the event—addressed luring investors and developers to the city, City Hall closing on Fridays, stolen or abandoned shopping carts, pension funding liability, strengthening Marine base relations, homelessness, broadcasting city council meetings on local access cable, growth of the commercial marijuana industry and the conversion of the city to district elections.
Over the next few days, we will report on each district candidates’ responses to these questions in a three-part series.
