TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL APPROVES PROJECT PHOENIX

The Twentynine Palms City Council discussed Project Phoenix at its regular meeting last night. Reporter David Haldane was there, and files this report…
The Twentynine Palms City Council took its first steps towards revitalizing the city’s downtown Tuesday by unanimously deciding to spend $885,000 from bond proceeds to study adding pedestrian promenades adjacent to Highway 62. The plan, called Project Phoenix, could ultimately cost nearly $20 million and take three years to complete. City staffers will begin by analyzing market conditions and holding community meetings. They also will spruce up a former tire shop now marking the pedestrian walk way’s future entrance.
In other actions, the council voted to support the “San Bernardino Regional Energy Partnership,” a coalition aimed at meeting long-term energy goals. It also decided to submit the reconstruction of Luckie Avenue for possible funding by the Economic Development Agency.
