TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL ADVANCES PROJECT PHOENIX SEWER PLAN

The Twentynine Palms City Council met last night and dove head first in to the New Year with a discussion on sewer rates relating to Project Phoenix. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…

Last night’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting, the first of 2021, focused mainly on the sewer rate fee study and rate-setting process for Project Phoenix. On March 1, the city will connect 14 businesses within the Project Phoenix area to the newly installed sewer system, which the city will operate and maintain.

This is a one-year study, so the council will review rates one year after connection. The council voted to distribute informational mailings and set a date for a public protest hearing on February 23.

Next week, residents will see earth moving on Project Phoenix. Roads from Tamarisk to Cholla will be leveled in the project area. City Manager Frank Luckino stated the Project Phoenix is on schedule for a ribbon cutting one year from now.

Also, the city has acquired an extra supply of PPE equipment for local business owners who may need them. If interested, call City Hall at 760-367-6799.

The Twentynine Palms City Council met remotely January 5.
