The Twentynine Palms City Council met last night to clarify matters around peddling, street vending and mobile food trucks. Plus, the construction of Project Phoenix structures got a real timeline. Reporter Heather Clisby was there…
Last night, the Twentynine Palms City Council unanimously voted to adopt proposed amendments to the City’s development code regarding street vendors. Community Development Director Travis Clark proposed separating various vending activities into three specific designations: sidewalk vending, which occurs on public property; transient selling, peddling, and soliciting, which occurs on private property; and mobile food truck vendors, which can occur on either. Code Enforcement will require a permit from all types and will ensure that each adheres to specific regulations.
City Manager Frank Luckino then made the case for the hiring of Tilden-Coil Constructors to manage construction of the multi-purpose facility and Joshua Tree National Park Cultural and Visitor Center. Luckino stated that this would ensure that the architect plans and the city budget would remain “in lock-step.” Construction of the buildings are slated to begin February 15, 2021 with an approximate one-year construction timeline
