Local business owners and residents had the opportunity to address their concerns and ideas at the Twentynine Palms Chamber of Commerce’s State of the Chamber meeting last night. Executive Director and President Jacob Smith addressed its issues and challenges. Some challenges that were discussed included the need for volunteers, particularly in the visitor center, more events to promote local businesses, the budget, and the need for a new executive director. Smith also touched on an investigation by the Labor Board alleging an improper termination. He said the Chamber Board believes the complaint is without merit, and will defend itself against it. Smith, along with other board members, suggested solutions, such as more business meetings, providing less stress for the upcoming executive director, and communication. He concluded by saying the chamber looks forward to growth and changes in the upcoming year. Following their mission statement, they plan to help businesses achieve their goals and continue providing necessary information for their community.
