Wednesday, the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats won the second annual Battle of the Ball basketball game against Yucca Valley Trojans at the Copper Mountain College Bell Center.
The
Wildcats won 84-43. They jumped out to a 22-4 first-quarter lead with
outstanding defense, tallying 28 steals on the night, and cruised to their
second consecutive Battle of the Ball Victory.
The Wildcats were led by Saiz Aguilar with 17 points, eight assists, followed
by Jeremiah Holmes with 14 points, three blocks, and Jacob Hueso with 12 points
and five assists.
The Wildcats improve to 10-10 overall, and 6-1 in the Desert Valley Leagues. They are tied for first place in the DVL with Indio High School, who visit Twentynine Palms Friday night for a battle of first-place teams.
Team leaders for the Yucca Valley High School boys’ team are: Kris Brady with 11 points and four rebounds; Eli Roy, eight points and four rebounds; and Noah Roy with seven points and three steals.
The junior varsity Wildcats lost a very close game, 43-40. Top scorers were Tua Kakalia, 14 points, nine rebounds; Demar Smith, seven points, four assists; Aidan Gamboa, five points, five rebounds, and four steals.
The frosh/soph team lost also. No score was reported.
