The Twentynine Palms boys’ basketball team won the first game of the Desert Valley League season on Tuesday night against the Banning Broncos. Coach Michael Usher said the varsity squad beat the Broncos 66-47. The Wildcats improve to 3-2 on the season, and 1-0 in the Desert Valley League.
After a slow first quarter, the team bounced back behind a 21-point, 11-rebound performance by junior Jaylan Bradberry, and a 12-point, eight-rebound night from junior Troy Tuivaiti. The team’s next game is Thursday on the road at Coachella Valley.
The junior varsity beat the Broncos 54-28. Sophomore Izaiah Leopoldo led the team with 16 points and three rebounds, with sophomore Josh Herne scoring nine. The junior varsity Wildcats move to 3-2 on the season.
Frosh-soph beat Banning by a score of 59-23, in a game where every player scored. The Wildcats were led by freshman Jeremiah Holmes with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and seven steals, followed by freshman Aiden Sullivan with eight points and seven rebounds.
