TWENTYNINE PALMS BOYS’ BASKETBALL: VARSITY WINS; JV LOSES

On Tuesday, the Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball team played the Summit Skyhawks in the first game of the Showdown in the Snake Pit Tournament last night, hosted by Rancho Mirage High School. The varsity team won, 80-72. The junior varsity team lost, 70-45.
Coach Michael Usher said the Wildcats were paced by junior Jacob Hueso, with 19 points, six assists, and five steals. Izzy Goldsmith scored 14 points and had eight rebounds.

Heavy team defense and balanced scoring saw nine Wildcats score, and the team shot 23 for 29 from the free-throw line, to pick up their first win of the season. The Wildcats are now 1-2 on the season, and travel to Rancho Mirage on today. The frosh-soph team plays at 3:30; junior varsity at 5, and then varsity at 6:30.
