The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball program played three great games Tuesday night, completing the 3-0 Desert Valley League sweet of the visiting Golden Eagles from Desert Hot Springs.
Varsity won a gritty game, 72-69, against the Golden Eagles.
The Wildcats combined outstanding performances by sophomore Jacob Hueso with 25 points, junior Jaylan Bradberry with 19 points, six rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.
A supporting cast of Cezar Hueso, Neo Bullion, Saiz Aguilar, Mac Miller, Jon Carson, Izzy Goldsmith, and Gabe Villescas played crucial minutes to help the Cats’ overcome foul trouble and some injuries and illnesses to get a huge early-season league win.
A huge defensive performance by the team propels the Wildcats to 5-2 on the season, and 3-0 in the Desert Valley League. All three teams travel to Indio on Thursday.
Junior varsity beat Desert Hot Springs, 68-30.
Strong performances by sophomores Josh Herne and Izaiah Leopoldo. Herne led the team with 17 points and six steals, and Leopoldo had 13 points and five steals. An outstanding team defensive performance led to 35 total steals on the night. Junior varsity moves to 5-2 on the season, 3-0 in the DVL.
The frosh-soph team won 52-11.
A balanced attack with freshmen Aiden Sullivan, Jeremiah Holmes, and sophomore Carlos Lazo scoring 12, 10, and 11 points respectively, combined with great defense, held the visiting Golden Eagles to fewer than three points per quarter. The Wildcats move to 3-0 on the season.
