On Friday the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat varsity and junior varsity boys’ basketball teams hosted the Desert Mirage Rams in a Desert Valley League match up, with both teams improving to 4-0 in league play with a 91-37 victory for the varsity, a 67-46 win for junior varsity.
Coach Michael Usher said varsity improved to 6-5 overall and a 4-0 first-place league record.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 38-6 first
quarter lead, finished the half at 67-17, on their way to a 91-37
victory. Senior Kam Luna scored 15 points with three steals, and Troy
Tuivaiti shot 70 percent on his way to 14 points and three steals.
Junior Josh Herne scored 10, and Xavier Burns and Jacob Hueso scored
nine apiece.
Junior varsity was led by Ray Thorton with 13 points,
six rebounds, and four assists, and PJ Horn with nine points, four
assists and four steals. Quinton Hibler and Carter Lane each had
eight points on the evening.
The Wildcats head into the winter
break on a five-game winning streak, and will travel to take part in
the Torrey Pines Holiday classic’s Mayor’s Division December 26-30 at
Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad.
