TWENTYNINE PALMS BASKETBALL: BOYS WIN AGAINST CATHEDRAL CITY

Twentynine Palms boys’ basketball opened its Desert Valley League play on Thursday with a 62-54 victory on the road against the Cathedral City Lions. Coaches say it was a close and scrappy game throughout.

Coach Michael Usher said, “Up 27-23 at half, the Wildcats opened the second half with a strong defensive performance anchored by senior Israel Goldsmith who finished the game with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks.” He added, “After a tough fourth quarter that saw the Lions get within four points, the experienced and battle tested Wildcats made enough stops when it mattered to get the win. Senior and reigning DVL Most Valuable Player Jacob Hueso paced the ’Cats with 18 points and five assists, while junior Jeremiah Holmes chipped in 12 strong points and eight rebounds.”
