TWENTYNINE PALMS BABY BORN AT HOME BEFORE PARAMEDICS ARRIVE

A Twentynine Palms woman called the fire department Wednesday for help when she started delivering her baby at home alone in the 5900 block of Aztec Avenue. About 8:17 a.m., the woman, identified only as a Marine spouse whose husband was at work, called to say she was delivering her first baby and it was a high-risk birth. The Fire Department had to call the Sheriff’s Department for assistance since the doors were locked. County Fire Captain Jay Dimoff said the woman gave birth to the baby boy at 8:28 while paramedics were still outside the home. The mother and her premature baby—reported to be in critical condition—were transported to the Naval Hospital on board the Combat Center.
