TWENTYNINE PALMS ADDS SAFETY FEATURES AT A TROUBLED WASH

The City of Twentynine Palms is taking public safety measures after many vehicles were getting stuck in the soft sand around a local flood control wash. Among the vehicles stuck recently was a semi-truck with a driver from New York who was following his GPS and tried to drive through the flood control wash at Desert Knoll and Buena Vista Drive in Twentynine Palms. The wash is filled with soft sand, and so the semi got stuck and had to be towed out. In response, the Twentynine Palms Public Works Department has installed additional caution signs — “Soft Sand” and “Pavement Ends”— on both sides of the wash to warn motorists that the road is not maintained, and it is not safe to attempt to drive through. Motorists are encouraged to choose an alternate route when driving in this area.
