Four candidates for the Twentynine Palms City Council aired their views last week in a two-hour forum sponsored by Z1077 FM. Reporter David Haldane was there…
There’s a fair amount of agreement regarding priorities among Twentynine Palms’ four candidates vying for two City Council seats in the November election.
One of the highest, all agree, is the completion of Project Phoenix, a multi-million-dollar revitalization of the city’s commercial corridor along Highway 62.
Ask them how to do it, though, and you get different answers.
Joel Klink, the only incumbent, says finish quickly to begin bringing shoppers downtown.
Jim Krushat worries about a possible shortfall that will require lots of control.
Steve Bilderain says it ought to be built bit-by-bit, adding new pieces as the money flows.
And Ken King says it should all be built all at once to help keep the cost low.
The disparate opinions were expressed during last week’s candidates’ forum moderated by news director Gary Daigneault. Other questions related to dirt roads, food trucks and unsightly debris.
Election day is Nov. 8.
