The Wolf Fire burning south of Banning in the hills east of State Route 243 is now burning 2,414 acres, nearly doubling in size since Monday (June 30). The fire began at around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday (June 29), and under the command of Cal Fire and Riverside County Fire is at 35% containment as Tuesday morning (July 1). Evacuation orders are in effect for a number of communities in the mountains, and have expanded since Monday. Some parts of Banning, Owl, and Cabazon south of the 10 freeway are under evacuation warnings, and warnings areas have expanded south and east. The cause remains under investigation.
The Lake Fire burning at the Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area north of Crestline is remaining stable since Monday burning across 485 acres. The fire began at around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and under the command of Cal Fire and San Bernardino County Fire is now at 50% containment as of Tuesday morning. Evacuation warnings are in effect for some residents south of Lugo and north of Cajon Junction. The cause is under investigation.
