The Yucca Valley High School Trojan football team lost a hard-fought battle to Coachella Valley Thursday night by a score of 20-15.
However, according to coach Jeremy Johnson, the Trojans also did something no other team has been able to… held the Coachella Arabs to their lowest score of the season.
Coach Johnson said, “I’m very pleased with how we played even though the outcome didn’t quite go the way we wanted it to. Coachella Valley is used to scoring 40 points a game and our defense held them and our offense had every opportunity. We get better every week.”
Austin Dickens carried the ball into the end zone for the first Trojan touchdown, a 2-point conversion run by Michael Ramos tied the score at Halftime 8-8.
In the fourth quarter Demar Smith took over as quarterback and threw a touchdown pass to Javin Hudson. Senior AJ Carlos kicked in the field goal making the score 20-15 with 2:08 left in the game.
The Trojans defense played tough all night. Defensive leaders were Garrett Slayden, Seth Storm, and Landon Stitt each had 8 tackles followed by Jacob Curry and Ben Casillas with 6 tackles each. The defense racked up 3 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 1 fumble recovery.
Now second place in the Desert Valley League, the Trojans have another home game Friday Night vs Indio.
