In high school sports, the Yucca Valley High School Trojan track and field team split up with the distance squad traveling to Azusa Pacific University for the Meet of Champions and the sprinters and throwers attending the Beaumont Invitational. Coach Jay Stepp said both meets saw the sophomore class grab the headlines. At APU, Loryn Brimhall had the best 800-1600 double in school history. She started the day by running 5:14.88 in the 1600 meters (number 2 all-time for YVHS) and followed it up in the 800 meters with a school record 2:19.29. Her counterpart, Elijah Ocegueda set the frosh/soph record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.09, good for number 3 all-time.
At the Beaumont Invite, a pair of sophomore throwers placed second. Bo Platt was runner-up in both the shot put (36’07”) and the discus (104’03”). Haley Jackson placed second in the discus with a throw of 91’06.5″.
Up next, the Trojans will travel to Banning on Wednesday for their third league competition of the season.
