Yucca Valley High School boys’ basketball hosted Desert Hot Springs last night. Varsity lost 66-88.
Stand-out athletes were Noah Roy, who scored 15 points and 12 rebounds; Braden Brimhall, with 12 points and three 3-pointers; and Anthony Olvera, who scored 10 points.
Coach Matt Jennings said the Trojans had a tough time keeping with the more athletic DHS team. But he was pleased to see that the team didn’t ever give up and played to final buzzer.
Junior varsity won, 78-35.
Top scorers were Tayten Shartel with 17 points, five rebounds, and four steals; Jace Hudson had 12 points and seven rebounds; and Jacob Rideout and Cesar Olvera scored 10 points each.
Coach Jon Price said they had the lead from the beginning and never let up. The team is still undefeated in league.
The frosh-soph team won, 81-47.
Stand-outs were David Jimenez, who scored 17 points; Cooper Hopton, also scored 17 points, and was five for six in 3-pointers; Demar Smith made 16 points with eight rebounds; and Tua Kakalia, with 10 points, and eight rebounds.
Coach Ernesto Gamboa said the boys came out shooting well and had a 49-24 lead at halftime. They too are undefeated in league play.
The Yucca Valley High School Trojans look forward to their final home game this Thursday against Cathedral City, with JV starting at 3 p.m. and varsity beginning at 5 p.m. A special halftime ceremony will take place during the varsity game to acknowledge the season’s senior players.
