Yucca Valley High School varsity and junior varsity boys’ soccer teams played against Indio High School Tuesday night at home. Varsity lost 3-4.
Despite varsity’s 4-3 loss, coach Jorge Rodriguez is still pleased with the results, noting Indio’s reputation as a high-ranked team. Rodriguez named Sophomore forward Carlos Santos-Rodriguez the player of the match for scoring two of varsity’s goals.
“The team continues to play better, to improve, and they’re starting to trust each other,” Rodriguez said. Assistant coach Adan Mendoza says losing at such a close score has still boosted players’ confidence in the games ahead.
Junior varsity played a tough match, losing 3-1 against the Rajas.
Coach Adan Mendoza reflected on the loss. “We’re still making adjustments to see where our strengths and weaknesses are and unfortunately, it comes with some risk. The team played great. We had a lot to take away from this match and I look forward to continuing to refine our formations and tactics until we get it right.”
Mendoza named freshman midfielder Logan Barth Player of the Match for scoring the team’s only goal of the night.
