The Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer teams put up a fight against Coachella Valley High School Thursday night, but the Arabs proved a tough match as both varsity and junior varsity games ended with losses. The JV team suffered a shortage of players due to mid-season injuries and illness, entering the field without subs and leaving them at a disadvantage as they ended the game with a loss of 6-1.
“We did our best,” said head coach Adan Mendoza, “I’m still very proud of the effort and determination these boys bring to each game, no matter the odds.”
Freshman Isaac Cardona was named Player of the Match for scoring the only goal of the game.
Varsity took the field right after, but despite their strong efforts, lost the game, 5-0.
“Our team was focused tonight,” said head coach Jorge Rodriguez, “There was good team effort, and good goalkeeping performance by junior Connor Slack, with 14 saves.”
Senior Kyler Harlow was named Player of the Match for his leadership throughout the game.
Both teams look forward to playing Banning at home on Tuesday. “JV walked away with a victory last time, and we expect the same this time,” said coach Adan Mendoza. This will be varsity’s first match against the Banning Broncos, as weather conditions forced them to postpone their last game. JV takes the field at 3 p.m. with varsity at 5 p.m.
