TROJAN BASKETBALL KICKS OFF HOLIDAYS WITH WINS

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan boys’ basketball team got their holiday break off to an early start with a 77-25 victory over Coachella Valley High School Thursday night (December 16). Seniors Aidan Gamboa and Demar Smith and sophomores Myles Harper and Jadon Pierce all scored in double figures to lead the way. The Trojans will next play 4 games in a holiday showcase December 27-30 at Rancho Mirage High School.

Playing their last game of 2021, the Lady Trojan basketball team also breezed to a 86-12 win against Coachella Valley High School Thursday night in Trojan Gym.

It may have been cold outside but the Lady Trojans were hot from the 3 point line by hitting fifteen 3 point baskets. Junior Malia Ulery (YER-lee) knocked down seven long-distance shots on her way to 23 points while senior Maliah Rodriguez hit five 3-point baskets while netting 17 points. Sophomore Cadence Tarrant and senior Heather Hiday took care of the inside game with Tarrant scoring 19 points and nabbing 15 rebounds, while Hiday notched 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Junior Ashley Lowe dropped three 3-point buckets to round out the scoring.

The Lady Trojans’ Desert Valley League record improved to 4-0 and their overall record to 9-3. The team’s next game is a non-league game at Hemet on January 3rd before they return to Trojan Gym to face Banning on January 5th.
