TROJAN BASEBALL BATTLES INDIO, SPLITS WIN

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan baseball team split their matchup with Indio last week. The Trojans lost 8-7 in extra innings last Tuesday (March 29) at home. Despite another strong pitching performance by Ryder Rohr, the Trojans were unable to pull out the victory. They rallied in the bottom of the 7th to force extra innings on some timely hitting and good baserunning.

Zach Cardoza laid down a beautiful bunt that brought Cam Elias across for the tying run. In the top of the 8th, Indio scored three runs. Once again, the Trojans fought back and had the bases loaded with two outs with the winning run on second base. Cardoza hit a shot down the third baseline that was snagged by the third baseman to end the game.

On Friday night (April 1), under the lights in Indio, the Trojans returned the favor. Playing arguably their best game of the season. The Trojans won 5-4. Freshman Marcus Cox, pitched five strong innings, giving up only two runs. Freshman, Nathan Natzel, who was just pulled up from junior varsity, pitched a gutsy final two innings to ensure the victory. Through strong defense, timely hitting, and good pitching, the Trojans improved to 5-3 in the league. They play Desert Hot Springs this week and hold their playoff and league title aspirations in the palms of their hands.
