TRIAL STARTING FOR WOMAN ACCUSED OF EMBEZZLING FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Jury selection began Wednesday in the trial of a Joshua Tree woman accused of embezzling from Morongo Unified School District two years ago.
Court records show the alleged embezzlement occurred in August 2014, and school administrators called police about the embezzlement in November 2014.
Karin Buttinelli, 50—who worked in the school district’s payroll and benefits office, handling payroll for certificated employees, and who was also listed as a notary public—was arrested at her home in February 2015 for investigation of embezzlement by a public officer over $400. Investigators have not released information about how much money she is accused of embezzling. Karin Buttinelli was released on $25,000 bail pending her trial.
