Trial for woman charged with Marine’s overdose will continue despite ‘medical condition’

The trial of an Arizona woman charged with murder in the 2021 overdose death of a Yucca Valley marine will continue, despite the suspect’s medical condition.

Attorney’s representing Alicia Hegarty requested a consideration of her unidentified medical condition, but a judge in Joshua Tree yesterday (July 12) determined that, despite the medical condition, her trial can move forward.

Hegarty was arrested and extradited to California in February relating to the 2021 overdose death of Marshall Luppke, a 22-year-old active duty Marine and resident of Yucca Valley.

Hegarty is alleged to have sold Luppke the drugs which led to the overdose, Because she had a previous conviction relating to drugs, the county’s District Attorney is pursuing murder charges against Hegarty. In March, she pleaded not guilty to felony charges of murder and charges relating to the transportation and sales of controlled substances.

Alicia Hegarty is next due in court on Tuesday (July 18) for an early disposition hearing.
