TRIAL FOR CHRISTOPHER LEE, CHARGED IN MURDER OF ERIN CORWIN, MOVED TO SAN BERNARDINO

Christopher Lee—charged with the murder of Erin Corwin—and his attorney were in court again yesterday, to hear if a new judge will be assigned to their case. Managing editor Tami Roleff has the details…
In a Joshua Tree courtroom today, Judge Rodney Cortez followed a court decision handed down by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and passed the gavel in the Christopher Lee murder case. Lee’s attorney, David Kaloyanides, had filed a peremptory challenge in April, asking Judge Cortez to disqualify himself, which Cortez denied, saying the request was not timely. But the appeals court overruled Cortez, and so he passed the case over to Judge Bert Swift. The prosecution then filed its own peremptory challenge against Judge Bert Swift, and so Cortez re-assigned the case to Judge Glenn Yabuno in San Bernardino. Lee’s next court appearance is Thursday, September 24, at which time he may be re-arraigned and trial dates will be set. Christopher Lee, 26, is accused of killing Erin Corwin in June 2014, and dumping her body down a mine shaft east of Twentynine Palms.
