A question often asked by visitors to Joshua Tree National Park is, “What will we see as we drive through?” Our common answer is that you will see some animals, lots of vegetation, and great scenery, such as the large boulder piles and the iconic Joshua Trees. Unfortunately, another sign that can be seen inside the park is trash, in the form of paper, drink cans, glass bottles, and shiny Mylar balloons. The shine or glare from trash left at the side of the road can distract one’s eye from the beauty of the park. Trash can also affect the wildlife, if eaten by animals or if the animals get tangled in string or plastic. We can all do our part by picking up our trash and throwing it away in the proper receptacles, found in campgrounds and picnic areas. Help us keep your national park clean.
