Buses throughout the Morongo Basin are free today in honor of Transit Equity Day.

Today is the birthday of civil rights activist Rosa Parks who is known for her act of civil disobedience on a Montgomery Alabama city bus in 1955 when she refused to give up her seat to a white man and move to the back. Many cite that singular act as the beginnings of the nationwide civil rights movement that is still continuing today.

Her landmark act of civil disobedience is being celebrated county-wide with free bus rides.

Our local provider Basin Transit say they want “everyone to ride” with free fares all day, and other transit companies in San Bernardino County will also be waiving fares:

  • Needles Area Transit
  • Metrolink
  • Omnitrans
  • Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA)
  • Mountain Transit
