TRANSIENT ACCUSED OF SETTING BRUSH FIRE IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

A Twentynine Palms man was cited early Thursday morning accused of illegally setting a fire. According to a Sheriff’s report, Deputies received a report of a brush fire at about 12:30 a.m. at the aqueduct near the intersection of Adobe Road and Civic Center Drive in Twentynine Palms. While communicating with deputies, the reporting party was approached by Samuel Diaz, 32, who reportedly admitted to setting the fire. According to County Fire Battalion Chief Scott Tuttle, Firefighters from 29 Palms Fire Station 44 were dispatched to the scene, but the fire had burned itself out by the time firefighters arrived. When deputies arrived, they contacted Diaz and determined that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Samuel Diaz was cited for investigation of setting an unauthorized fire to land of another and released.
