TRAFFIC CRASHES PLAGUED THE ENTIRE MORONGO BASIN YESTERDAY

Besides Wednesday morning’s bus crash in Yucca Valley, firefighters responded to two other roll-over crashes at opposite ends of the Morongo Basin yesterday. Just before 12:30 p.m., Twentynine Palms firefighters were called to a two-vehicle crash at Adobe Road and Desert Trail where a Jeep and a Ford SUV collided. A Sheriff’s Department report states the driver of the Ford was traveling north on Adobe Road in the number one lane, when the driver of the Jeep turned onto into the number two lane of northbound Adobe Road from Desert Trail. The driver of the Ford struck the Jeep in the back fender, causing the Jeep to swerve off the road. The force of the collision caused the Ford to roll over three times before landing onto its driver’s side. With help from the Combat Center and Wonder Valley Fire Departments, rescuers stabilized the SUV while they worked to help the female driver get out through the vehicle’s sunroof. She was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center with moderate injuries. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

And in Morongo Valley, firefighters were called to another single-vehicle roll-over crash on southbound Highway 62 in the Morongo Grade at 3:20 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the Honda Civic was on its roof blocking the number 2 lane of the highway, but the driver of the car was nowhere to be found. According to preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol, two men described as Hispanic were seen getting out of the car and running away, and then flagging down a vehicle for a ride into Desert Hot Springs. The CHP is investigating the possibility that the crashed Honda was stolen out of Desert Hot Springs. Anyone with information should call the CHP at 760-772-8938 or Desert Hot Springs police at 760-329-2904.
