TOWN OF YUCCA VALLEY REPORTS ON NEW SALES TAX REVENUES

The Town of Yucca Valley has released a report on how it’s spending millions of dollars in tax revenue from Measures Y and Z. Managing editor Tami Roleff fills in the details…

Measures Y and Z are performing better than expected for Yucca Valley residents and the town. These two half-cent sales tax measures were passed by residents in November 2016 and went into effect in 2017. Measure Y brought in nearly $2 million in fiscal year 2017-2018. The funds have been used to hire a Sheriff’s detective and service safety specialist, provided $750,000 for street repairs and improvements, and quality of life programs. Measure Z also received nearly $2 million in revenues that can only be used to reduce the sewer assessment on residents’ property tax bills. Thanks to the Measure Z funds, next year’s annual assessment is expected to be cut in half to $350.
