A locally based band will interrupt their major tour to release their new CD “Soul: How I Keep Moving On” this weekend. Reporter Rebecca Havely talked with Gene Evaro Junior of the Gene Jr. Band… Z107.7: So Gene tell us about your band, where you’ve been and where you’re heading on tour… Evaro: We’re Gene Jr. and The Family from Joshua Tree. Piper Robinson is on the bass, Tyler Sacara on the drums, Amanda Davis on backup vocals and I’m Gene Evaro Jr. I play guitar and sing. Amanda, Piper and myself, we’ve all kind of grown up in the desert. We wouldn’t have been able to get on the road without the help of our community. We just kind of had faith and asked people if they would help us. As it turned out we got quite a bit of help. We opened up a place on our website, a place where people could donate money to our tour. We raised $2,500 online. It was like, in a day, it was crazy! We are following around and opening for Elle King whose song “Ex’s and Oh’s” is a big hit single right now. And we all happen to be friends with her also. Z107.7: Where have some of your stops been and where are you heading next? Evaro: Ohio, and then we went to Indianapolis and Nashville—that was a really good gig—and Hollywood, that’s what kind of brought us back to the desert. That’s what kind of brought us back to the desert. Next we go to New York, Boston and more. Z107.7: I hear you’re doing a surprise show for the locals. Evaro: The surprise show is 8 p.m. Saturday at The Trading Post and it’s right in downtown Joshua Tree. Z107.7: Thanks Gene. The Gene Jr. Band’s New CD will be featured on the Z107.7 Local Music Showcase with Pat Michaels, this Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
