Find out more about the threatened desert tortoise during a field seminar, hosted by the Desert Institute and Copper Mountain College. Starting in the classroom, Edward LaRue Jr., of the Desert Tortoise Council, will discuss tortoise life, threats, and how to detect them. Then Paul Delaney, a biology professor at Copper Mountain College, will discuss the college’s translocation area and participants will be able to explore the college’s tortoise translocation area and look for burrows and signs of the tortoises. The class will be held Saturday, April 6 from 9 to 4. The fee is $60, or $50 for members of the Desert Institute. To register, call 760-367-5535 or visit www.joshuatree.org
