The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved a 7 percent pay increase to county administrators and executives. An unusual change included a reduction in salary of the county clerk, now a function carried out by the assessor, to $1 a year. A county spokesman said that the county, if it could, would eliminate the position, “The law says we have to have a county clerk position, so we’re keeping the position but reducing the salary to $1 per year.” The salary for County CEO Greg Devereaux will increase from more than $315,000 to more than $335,000 through July of 2018. The revised ordinance also moves 36 positions within the exempt group from a fixed salary to a salary range that becomes effective for new hires on July 9. It eliminates nine job classifications, authorizes a vehicle allowance for the chief district attorney investigator, and reduces the salary for senior human resource officers.
