Excepting those offices with incumbents choosing not to run, the deadline to run for local elected bodies is tomorrow. Reporter David Haldane explains…
If you’ve always dreamed of power and glory, tomorrow may be your last chance to embark on that path. At least for a while.
That’s the deadline to file papers for a variety of Morongo Basin public offices up for grabs in November. In addition to seats on the governing councils of two local municipalities—Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms—positions are open on the boards of a variety of government agencies including the Hi-Desert Water District, Joshua Basin Water District, Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District and the Morongo Unified School District.
While candidates for the two municipal councils can get their papers at City Hall, most others will have to “pull” them at the county elections office in San Bernardino. Candidates for the healthcare district can also pull their papers at the hospital, but will have to file them in San Bernardino.
The filing deadline is 5 p.m. tomorrow, except where incumbents don’t run, which extends it by a week.
