A pile of tires on fire in Wonder Valley sent up black smoke that could be seen for miles Wednesday morning. Twentynine Palms and Wonder Valley firefighters were called to the fire near Amboy Road and Wilson Road in Wonder Valley about 9:10 Wednesday morning. Firefighters had the fire under control in 20 minutes. County Fire Captain Zach Taylor said tires had been dumped on the homeowner’s property and the resident was burning trash and the flames had jumped over to the nearby tires. Taylor reminds residents that burn permits can be obtained at local fire stations, and firefighters will explain the burn permit restrictions.
