THUNDERSTORMS SPARK BLAZE IN TWENTYNINE PALMS AND JOSHUA TREE

A palm tree in Twentynine Palms caught on fire last night from a lightning strike during the thunderstorm. County Fire Chief Scott Tuttle said Twentynine Palms and Wonder Valley firefighters were called to the blaze on Mesquite Springs Road and Lazy Joe Avenue at 11:11 p.m. No other structures were threatened by the blaze.

Then at 5:40 this morning, Joshua Tree and Yucca Mesa firefighters were called to a structure fire on Cascade, just north of Winters Road in the Copper Mountain Mesa neighborhood. The abandoned cabin was fully involved with flames. The cause is under investigation.
