THREE VIE FOR TITLE OF LANDERS HONORARY MAYOR

The deadline is approaching in the hotly contested race for Landers Honorary Mayor. Managing Editor Tami Roleff has more on this light-hearted community fund-raiser…..
With about a week left in the race for the title of Landers Honorary Mayor, candidates have been crisscrossing the Basin shaking hands, kissing babies and stuffing cash-filled envelopes in their pockets. It’s anything but politics as usual; the cash comes from each candidate’s ticket sales. Each $1 ticket represents one vote. Everyone can vote as many times as they like, so vote early and often! On Saturday, May 4, the candidates, who so far include Gina Walker, Mike Lipsitz, and Robert Salyers, all of Landers, will hand over their collected monies to auditors from the Morongo Basin Historical Society. Landers Honorary Mayor will be named that day at an ice cream award party at Belfield Hall. Funds raised will be divided between the Landers Association, Unity Home, Landers Elementary School Science Camp, CERT program supplies, and care packages for Marines in Afghanistan. Stop by Belfield Hall in Landers to toss your hat in the mayoral race or to buy some votes for your favorite candidate. Call 760-364-2676 for more information.
