Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell was at Whitewater Preserve Thursday to celebrate the new California Desert National Monuments this morning. Joining Jewell were Congressman Raul Ruiz of Palm Springs, and County Supervisor James Ramos, to dedicate the three new national monuments, Sand to Snow, Mojave Trails, and Castle Mountains by President Obama earlier this year. Jewell urged residents to come out and enjoy their new public lands. “Three national monuments, made possible because of hard work of people of this community, Senator Feinstein, and federal land management agencies. So for the people of SanBernardino County, these are your public lands, Sand to Snow National Monument, Mojave Trails, and Castle Mountain.” President Obama designated the three new national monuments earlier this year, after Senator Dianne Feinstein’s bill to protect the lands stalled again in Congress.
