Three men were arrested over the weekend, accused of a carjacking in Twentynine Palms last week. According to Sheriff’s reports, Meghan Green, 27, and David Warren, 29, both from Washington State, flagged down a deputy about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 73400 block of 29 Palms Highway. They said they had bought some drugs for three men, who then asked them for a ride to one of their parents’ house. The men directed the victims to Baseline Road and Adobe Road where Green and Warren were then ordered out of their car. When Warren refused to get out, he was pistol whipped in the head by one of the men. The suspects then left the victims in the desert and drove off in their car.
A California Highway Patrol officer located the car in El Centro on Thursday and arrested the driver, Austin Byrnes, 20, of Twentynine Palms, for possession of a stolen vehicle. A BB gun that was used in the carjacking was found in the vehicle.
Morongo Basin deputies learned that Daniel Wineteer, 18, of Yucca Valley, and Damian Reese, 30, of Twentynine Palms, were with Byrnes on the night of the carjacking and warrants were issued Friday for their arrest.
On Saturday, Deputies Alex Stumbo and Michael Roche located Wineteer and Reese near Highway 62 and Smoketree in Twentynine Palms and arrested them on their warrants for carjacking and conspiracy. Damian Reese and Daniel Wineteer were booked into the West Valley Detention Center with their bail set at $100,000 each. Deputies will seek extradition of Austin Byrnes to San Bernardino County.
