Two women and a man have been charged with the murder of a man whose burnt body was found in Joshua Tree two weeks ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. The victim, William Webb, 72, of Venice was reported missing August 15, and a body that had been set on fire was found in the Sunfair Dry Lake bed the next day. Detectives quickly suspected that the case came from the Los Angeles area, and detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department-West Division took over. Arrested for Webb’s murder were his stepdaughter, Haena Worthing, 44, of Marina del Rey, along with two others, John Schiefer, 38, of Nipomo, and Shavonne Webster, 40, of Indiana. The district attorney says that Schiefer and Webster used a hammer as a weapon in the murder. If convicted of first-degree murder, the three each face life in prison.
