THIS WEEKEND’S LANDERS ORCHID FESTIVAL OFFERS A LOT MORE THAN ORCHIDS

If you think the Morongo Basin Orchid Festival is just about the world-class orchid show, the greenhouse tours offering acres of blooming orchids, and orchid-growing classes for kids and adults, then think again. Reporter Rebecca Havely says there’s something for every taste…

The 22nd annual Morongo Basin Orchid Festival, held the weekend of October 7 and 8, is one of the most interesting and diverse events of the year. Visitors are guaranteed to find what they’re hungry for.

The Yucca Valley Sunset Rotary Club’s “Sunset Grill” will be back with burgers, dogs, and a taco plate with all the fixings. For those hungry for something a little more refined, the Sunset Rotary will again pop the cork on their popular wine tasting both days. Try the always-popular sparkling Lambrusco, or perhaps you prefer a Riesling, chardonnay, zinfandel, pinot noir or cabernet sauvignon. The tasting with a variety of cheese samples and a commemorative Orchid Festival wine glass is just $15. Or stick with what you know, wine by the glass is just $5. Complement it all with a fruit, cheese and cracker assortment for just $5. If you have a taste for craft beer, try a glass from Joshua Tree Brewing.

The Morongo Basin Orchid Festival is at Gubler Orchids at 2200 Belfield Blvd. off Reche Road in Landers. Just follow the signs.
