As we enter into the dry season, it is important to remain mindful about the dangers of wildfires. Reporter Joshua King has more information on behalf of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Sunday, May 2nd through Saturday, May 8th marks Wildfire Preparedness Week, and this one may hold more importance than past years. 2020 saw six of the largest and most destructive wildfires in the state’s history, burning more than 4 million acres of land, double that of the previous record set in 2008. Although the state government has allocated more than $1 billion towards fire management, fire prevention, mitigation efforts, forest health, and home hardening, there are still measures we as individuals can take to help prevent wildfires. CAL FIRE urges citizens to ensure adequate defensible space around homes and buildings, make homes more fire resistant, and have an emergency preparedness or escape plan.
