THEATRE 29’s SUMMER YOUTH THEATRE PROGRAM OPENS REGISTRATION FOR 2022 SEASON

After having to cancel the 2019 and 2020 programs because of Covid-19, the 2022 Theatre 29 Summer Youth Theater program is well into the planning stages and staff members are ready for this exciting educational experience in the live arts!

The program will run Monday through Friday from June 27 through July 31, 2022, culminating with performances of “Disney’s Moana Jr.” The Youth Theater Program and the performances will all be held at the Theater at 73637 Sullivan Road in the City of Twentynine Palms.

The program will break into two age groups limited to 35 students each. The Juniors (7-11 years old) will meet from 9:30 am – 12 noon and the Seniors (11-17) meet from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The cost for the Program is $60.00 per student. Grants from The City of Twentynine Palms Public Arts Advisory Commission, 29 Palms Rotary, and private donors keeps our program fees low.

The program will teach a wide variety of theatrical skills including auditioning, acting, singing for musical theater, choreography, costuming, make-up, props, backstage skills, set construction, lighting, sound, and box office management.

Three to five students in each age group will be designated as the stage crew and will be primarily responsible for building and painting sets; building props; running lights and sound; and working backstage during the productions.

All students who are applying must agree to attend the entire month-long program. After an initial orientation session June 27, parents/guardians will not be able to attend. Students will supply their own basic costumes; Theatre 29 will supply specialty pieces and other details for more complex costuming. Meals will not be provided; individual water bottles and water will be provided. Parents/guardian must agree to drop off students up to 15 minutes before the session and pick them up within 15 minutes of the end of the session. No cell phones will be allowed during sessions.

Covid-19 mitigations will be announced just prior to the session with current State and CDC guidelines. All staff will be fully vaccinated.

Applications will be available at www.theatre29.org and must be turned in to the address on the application by June 18, 2022. The first 35 applicants in each age group with payment will be notified via e-mail; late applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

If the fee is a challenge or a hinderance to attendance students can apply for a scholarship on the application form. Applicants will be informed if their application for a scholarship is accepted.

The 2022 Theatre 29 Summer Youth Theater Program will be presented by experienced Theatre 29 volunteers. Gary Daigneault is the Program Director. The musical, “Disney’s Moana Jr.” will be directed by Daigneault for the Seniors; Katie Fleischman will direct the Juniors. The Musical Director for the program is Bianca Stoker, Choreographer is Lisa Goldberg, Technical Director is Heather Hampton and Cindy Daigneault will coordinate the costuming.

The Theatre 29 Summer 2022 Youth Theater Program has received permission from Disney to produce a DVD of the performance which will be made available for each student. They will also get a CD or Mp3 file of the music, a copy of the script to keep, a program T-Shirt, water bottle, wardrobe bag – and friends, memories, and skills to last a lifetime! The last performance will culminate in a cast pizza party.
