Community leaders and theater supporters packed the Friendship Hall at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center last Thursday night at a special tri-chamber event. Theatre 29 unveiled its show selections for the magical 2017 season. Reporter Rebecca Havely shares the show line up…
Five mainstage productions were announced as directors, actors and singers shared show snippets and vocal performances. The new season will begin with the hysterical comedy “Sylvia,” directed by Eddie Tucker. Next up, the hit Broadway musical “Mary Poppins,” with artistic director Gary Daigneault and musical director Bill Barrett. Charles Harvey will direct the darkly twisted fairy tale musical “Into the Woods,” with musical direction by Kathryn Ferguson. The Andrew Lloyd Webber operetta, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” will be directed by Rebecca Havely with musical direction by Analisa Pilecki. The Halloween Haunt “Freak Show” will be produced by Brandon Hazel, and the Broadway musical classic, “Meet Me in St. Louis,” directed by Kathryn Ferguson, rounds out the season. Additional 2017 offerings include improvisational theater performances directed by Chris Fleischman, a two-week special event, “Rashomon,”—a drama directed by Abe Daniels—as well as the ever popular summer youth theater program.
