Theatre 29 recently hosted a readers’ theater event with nationally recognized playwright Phil Olson. His latest play, “A Twisted Christmas Carol,” was presented to receptive audiences that offered the playwright helpful hints as he tunes-up his latest comedy before its national debut. With more, here’s Rebecca Havely…
Playwright Phil Olson, best known for his “Don’t Hug Me” plays and musical series, attended the first-ever reading of his latest comedy, “A Twisted Christmas Carol.” Gary Daigneault directed a talented cast of Theatre 29 veteran actors to present the play. This gave Olson the opportunity to hear comments, suggestions, and critiques of the characterization and dialogue from the audience and the performers. “A Twisted Christmas Carol” is set in Buford’s Open Pit Barbecue in West Texas and is a comedic parody of the Dickens’ classic. Actors Cindy Daigneault, Charles Harvey, Cody Joseph, Liyan Legavardi, and Graham Cooley took on the quirky personas of the play’s hilarious characters. Proceeds from the reading benefited the Theatre 29 Building expansion Fund.
