Theater 29 is offering a month-long summer youth theater program, culminating in four performances of the musical “Disney’s Peter Pan Jr.” Reporter Rebecca Havely has more details…
The summer youth program at Theater 29 will cover all aspects of live theater, including performing, costumes, make-up, set design, building and painting, stage management, props, lighting design. and operating the sound and light board, plus acting exercises and theater games. It will culminate with live performances of the musical “Disney’s Peter Pan Jr.” There will be two groups of participants: “Juniors,” ages 6-12; and “Seniors,” ages 12-17. Juniors sessions are 10 a.m. till noon; seniors meet from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Theater 29 Board President Gary Daigneault, who also teaches at Twentynine Palms High, will direct the senior production, and Katie Van Sumeren, a teacher at Condor Elementary, will direct the juniors performance. The course cost is $60 per student and includes the instruction, a summer youth theater T-shirt, a 5×7 cast photo, scripts, rehearsal CD, a DVD of the final performance, water and a cast pizza party after the final performance.
Classes for the youth theatre program are Monday through Friday from July 6 through July 30. The class is limited to the first 30 paid applicants in each age group. Applications will be available May 11 at theatre29.org and at various locations in the Morongo Basin.
