While Theatre 29 is busily putting the finishing touches on its 2021-22 season debut, “A Gentleman’s Guide To Love and Murder”, new auditions are being announced for their holiday show. Entertainment Reporter Charlie Thomas gives you the scoop…
Theatre 29 will hold open auditions for the musical retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic story A Christmas Carol on Sunday, September 26th at 5:00 p.m. on the Theatre 29 Main Stage (73637 Sullivan Road, Twentynine Palms). Award-winning Director Lisa Goldberg is looking to cast this gorgeous musical with a cast of characters ready to bring the joy of the holiday season to the Morongo Basin.
From the minds behind such shows as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, Ragtime, and Seussical, Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens breathe fantastic new life into the classic tale of A Christmas Carol. Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated “Bah! Humbug!” Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he’s forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present, and Future. Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful “Happy Christmas” before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those that mean the most to him.
All roles are open. The creative team is looking to cast a minimum of 16 performers for the show from ages 12 to 65+ ( if you have a child who is interested and under 12, please email the director at the address below). A complete breakdown of the characters can be found on the Theatre 29 website at theatre29.org/auditions. Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of a Disney song released prior to the 2000s or a musical theatre song in the style of the show. Please be prepared to read for any role and be dressed ready to move. If you are unable to attend the auditions on September 26th but would still like to be considered for the show, contact the director. COVID-19 VACCINATION IS REQUIRED. For more information, contact Director Lisa Goldberg by e-mail at [email protected].
A Christmas Carol: The Musical will run weekends at Theatre 29 from November 19th through December 12th with performances Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
