Open auditions for “Disney’s Mary Poppins take place on Monday, January 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Theatre 29. The roles being cast include: Mary Poppins, the new nanny. She has a magical, dazzling personality. She is a mezzo soprano with a strong top, in her mid-20s. Mary’s friend Bert is a chimney sweep in his mid-30s, he’s a baritone to G. The Banks family includes Mr. George Banks, a bank manager. He’s a baritone in his early 40s. Mrs. Winifred Banks is a loving but distracted mother, a mezzo soprano in her mid-30s. The children Michael and Jane must look 9 to 11 years old. The Banks’ staff includes Katie Nanna, the fed-up current nanny; Mrs. Brill the cook; Robertson, the boot man, and Miss Andrew, a former nanny. Other neighborhood characters include: Admiral Boom, a baritone; Mrs. Corry, a shop owner and soprano; Neleus, a live statue in the park, is a tenor. The Park Keeper, also a tenor; the neighbor Miss Lark is a mezzo soprano; and the Bird Woman, who sells bags of crumbs for the pigeons, is an alto.
Please prepare 32 bars of a Broadway-style song, no pop please. Provide background music on an electronic device or on a CD. Dress to move; tap experience a plus. Theatre 29 is located at 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms.
