The Yucca Valley Planning Commission go into their fourth discussion to update and enforce Outdoor Lighting Ordinance
For their fourth discussion and review of the Outdoor Lighting Ordinance, the Planning Commission aims to update the Ordinance in regard to Yucca Valley’s increased population and to explore tangible means to enforce the Ordinance.
At their last meeting on September 8, the Commission requested additional language to clarify the applicability of shielding requirements for string lights, a popular fixture among residents and short-term rentals that often remain on all night. Shielding directs light downwards and is required on all light fixtures to avoid light pollution. Other updates to the Ordinance include a new nighttime curfew to extinguish or dim by 50% non-essential outdoor lighting, and a five-year sunset period for commercial properties to comply with new lighting standards.
The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Yucca Room at the Yucca Valley Community Center, open to the public with opportunity for public comment.
